We will continue to fight for our rights. And we thank everybody who are supporting us in our fight.

This is the message conveyed by Datu Reynaldo Ayuma, leader of the Lumad evacuees from Sityo Camansi, Banglay, Lagonlong, Misamis Oriental who have now entered their fourth month of encampment in front of the Provincial Capitol.

Datu Reynaldo performed a Saot (a tribal war dance) and Dasang (a traditiona chant) during the “Solidarity with the Lumad: A Cultural Night held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds on October 5, 2018.

Various groups reiterated their support to the evacuees through solidarity messages and cultural presentation.

Datu Jomorito Goaynon, chairperson of Kalumbay Regional Lumad Organization, condemned Martial Law in Mindanao as intensifies the attack of the government against Lumad communities, resulting to increased number of human rights violations, including forcible evacuation

The activity also became a venue to denounce the arrest of Misamis Oriental Farmers Association Chariperson Jerry Basahon and Gabriela Women’s Party coordinator Merlita Dorado on October 4, 2018 on trumped up charges. The two are included in five warrant of arrests, along with 28 other individuals.

Peoples organizations claim that this is part of the Red October hysteria of the government to silence critics and continue with their anti-people policies.

The evacuees and their guests performed a candle lighting ceremony as symbol of their determination to fight for justice and peace in these dark times.
