Life of Aglipayan bishop in danger as new threats emerge
Barug Katungod Mindanao condemns in the strongest terms yet another campaign of vilification and red-tagging against Bishop Antonio Ablon, Barug Katungod Mindanao convenor and Karapatan-Western Mindanao chairperson.
Another set of malicious markings were discovered in the morning of October 10, 2018 at the Pulot Bridge and along the highway of Barangay Pulot, Ozamiz City. Another set of grafitti were found in Barangays Dimaluna and Tabid along the Ozamiz City highway.
The markings were reported by Fr. John Sanchez of the Diocese of Ozamiz of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente.
The red-tagging of Bishop Ablon has gotten more serious and worse, even as church leaders have condemned the vilification campaign by the Armed Forces of the Philippines against the prelate in a press conference led by the National Council of Churches in the Philippines in Quezon City on October 8, 2018.
With these relentless threats, we believe that the life of the good bishop is now in danger.
The government is hell-bent on implicating civilians, church leaders, peasants, Lumads and activists to combatants to justify their attacks and murders as what we have experienced in the past.
Even the justice system is being exploited by the government through the filing of criminal trumped-up charges against those who dissent.
