PRESS STATEMENT: Displaced Higaonon Lumads from Sitio Camansi dismayed at the silence of the Provincial Government

September 17, 2018

We, displaced Higaonon Lumads from Sitio Camansi, are very dismayed at the silence of the Provincial Government on the matter of the fact finding mission that was agreed upon during the dialogue last July 17. We sent a letter of request to the Governor’s Office last September 7 for the fact finding mission to be conducted September 18, 2018.

We demand Governor Bambi Emano’s response on the matter. During the dialogue, he stated that he could not do anything to address our problem by pulling out the military troops from our community. He, himself, expressed consent to the conduct of a fact finding mission in coordination with the local government of Lagonglong. Why is the Provincial Government fearful of the fact finding mission?

The objective of the fact finding mission is to identify the location of the military detachment, assess the damage that the Philippine Army has dealt to our community, including the houses that were burned down.

We have been encamped here at the Capitol Grounds for more than three months because of military presence and the construction of a military detachment in our community. We want to go home. We seek the help of the Father of Misamis Oriental so that we can go back to Sitio Camansi. We challenge Governor Bambi Emano to uphold his word of honor.
