STATEMENT OF THE INTEGRATED BAR OF THE PHILIPPINES MISAMIS ORIENTAL CHAPTER
The IBP Misamis Oriental Chapter strongly condemns the act of certain individuals circulating some flyers in Cagayan de Oro City tagging or labeling Attys. Beverly Musni, Czarina Musni, Beverly Ann Musni as communist.
It behooves us to remind everyone that lawyers are guardians of the law and they play a vital role in the preservation of order in society. Lawyers ensure that the rights of the litigants no matter how lowly their station in life maybe are equally protected before the law. In the performance of their duties, lawyers are merely representing the interest of their clients and nothing more, nothing less.
The red-tagging and labelling of lawyers are sweeping statements, unfounded, malicious, misleading, and uncalled for, and if unabated, it will unduly undermine the practice of the legal profession to the dtriment of society.
Anyone aggrieved by the actions of any lawyer is not without recourse. There are remedies available before the law which should be availed of by any aggrieved parties.
In this instant case, however, the above-mentioned lawyers have not committed any crime nor committed any illegal acts that deserves the harshest condemnation.
The accusations are unfair and clearly baseless and the IBP Misamis Oriental Chapter is particularly concerned that these acts might not only unnecessarily put the lives of these lawyers in danger but also unduly jeopardize the legal profession and therefore the same must be strongly condemned.
It also puts at risk their lives against actors who are ideologically disposed to counteract persons identified as communists even without the process of law.
